Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. Gotta fess up that the 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques from Pierre Duroche was easy to spot in the line-up – maybe because I just loved it so much. Here, it has an open, generous, pure bouquet with red berry fruit, raspberry and strawberry, fine delineation and poise, understated at first but growing in stature. The palate is feminine, pure and sensual with fine tannin, wonderful poise and superb tension all the way through to the finish. What a beautiful wine – pure unadulterated pinote!
Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030
