Tasting Notes
Antonio Galloni 92
The 2020 Chauvin is soft, plummy and enticing. Inky red cherry fruit, cedar, mocha, tobacco, mint, new leather and blood orange give this mid-weight Saint-Emilion lovely complexity and tons of class. Tasted two times.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2045
Neal Martin 92
The 2020 Chauvin was picked September 22-30 and matured in one-year-old barrels (60% new oak). It is a blend of 70% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc with 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is tight at first, demanding 10-15 minutes to open and reveal black cherries, blueberry, hints of baking powder and floral scents. This gains delineation with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, gentle grip and good substance. Midway through, the texture becomes pleasingly powdery, the imprint of the Cabernet Franc lending light black pepper and graphite notes toward the satisfying finish. Very fine. Tasted from two WIT test tubes and then regular 75cl bottle around a month later.
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2045
