2020 Domaine Y. Clerget, Volnay Premier Cru, Clos du Verseuil 1x75cl

The 2020 Volnay Clos de Verseuil 1er Cru has a hefty reduction on the nose to the point where, at least initially, I am not convinced it will dislodge with aeration. Yet, returning to my glass after 15 minutes, the fruit is emerging: cranberry and pomegranate, blood orange and cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, fleshy and ripe, with moderate acidity and an opulent, clean finish. Like other Volnays, you can criticize this for lacking typicite and Pinote, though it has a little more class than others in this flight. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
