Tasting Notes
Antonio Galloni 91
The 2021 Clarke is redolent of dark cherry, scorched earth, leather and tobacco. Bold and perhaps a bit rustic, the 2021 has tons of character. There is a bit of roughness in the tannin, but all the elements are very nicely balanced just the same
Anticipated maturity: 2026-2041
Neal Martin 91
The 2021 Clarke has more substance and fruit concentration than some of its peers: blackberry, violet petal, cedar and touches of pencil box classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry, good weight and gentle grip, fresh with a harmonious and clean-lined, marine-tinged finish. It doesn’t try to push too much, and this results in a superior Haut-Medoc that is well worth picking up.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2042

70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Mid crimson. Sweet-smelling black fruit, showing its Merlot dominance. But also has a leafy character of just-ripeness. Chewy, more dense than most of the Haut-Me docs just tasted. Firm, tannins with oak sweetness and acid on the finish. A little disjointed at the moment but has good depth for a 2021, the structure and the fruit well-matched. (JH)
Anticipated maturity: 2027-2037
