Tasting Notes

The 2021 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very heavy reduction on the nose-I wonder whether this will ever shift. It shrouds the fruit. The palate is, to quote the late Bill Blatch, "soft and squidgy," missing some grip and focus. There is some attractive fruit at the core of this wine but it needs to address that reduction. Very hard to judge this and my score is based on that reduction alleviating. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
JancisRobinson.com 17.5
0.75 ha. 50- to 75-year-old vines (the youngest, of seven years, go into the Dom Tawse Gevrey-Chambertin). 80% new oak. Cask sample.Pale ruby. Red fruits – strawberry, red cherry and redcurrant. Sweet and round on the palate – although less exuberant than I expected. Quite full bodied nevertheless, and very satisfying with suave tannins. Full and substantial without being a brute. A grand cru, by definition. (MH)
