Tasting Notes

The 2021 Pommard Epenots 1er Cru has a pleasant nose with brambly red fruit, sous-bois and subtle scents of sage and thyme. It feels a little smudged compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and sweet red cherry and strawberry scents, though it needs a bit more sustain on the finish. Clever use of whole bunches here and it has an openness and honesty that I appreciate. That said, perhaps more for early drinking. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Light ruby. Prettier and more red-fruited than the Platiere but still a touch stemmy. Light-bodied, finely tannic. Again, a little austere overall, though the tannins have been handled well so as not to overwhelm the fruit in this lighter vintage. (JH)
