Tasting Notes
Vinous 90
The 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Greywacke offers focus and palate weight. It builds a sense of richness, balancing the vintage’s natural acidity. This has fresh elderflower, pineapple and delicate passionfruit. Despite a difficult season, it is a thoughtfully made and well-judged style which offers clean, clear and pure flavors.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2026

For three years they used fruit from Awatere but now it’s mainly Southern Valleys (and some Central Wairau Plain). Owner Kevin Judd says, ‘I like ripeness and not greenness. I don’t measure thiols.’ But he was happy to find his thiol measurement was lowest when someone analysed them. They pick by machine at night. Cold settling. Not completely clear juice. Ambient and EC111A yeast. 10% ambient-yeast fermentation in old barrels. Especially minerally nose. Good comfortable balance but nothing extreme. Citrus, very slightly sweet. Not chewy. (JR)
