    Tasting Notes

    Antonio Galloni 91

The NV Brut Special Cuvee is fabulous. Hints of pears, pastry crust and hazelnut lead to an expansive core of fruit. There is plenty of the signature Bollinger oxidative style in this rich, enveloping Champagne. Once again the Special Cuvee is one of the best Champagnes in its price range. This is Lot L114501. Disgorged April 26, 2011. [Antonio Galloni, 12/01/2011]

    Neal Martin 89

We commence with the fail-safe choice of sparkler, the NV Bollinger Special Cuvee. The nose is well defined with forward, bready and slightly nutty. The palate has an irresistible fatness that those who like razor-sharp champagne might turn their nose up at, yet I enjoy its almost sensual texture and the lack of pretension. (60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier; 8 g/l dosage; L1403801): Pale yellow. Toasty aromas of apple and pear nectar are complemented by hints of toffee, honey and orange zest. Full and expansive on the palate, offering ripe orchard and pit fruit flavors and an undercurrent of smoky minerals and buttered toast. Smooth and gently spicy on the clinging, nicely focusd finish. [Josh Raynolds, 01/01/2014]

    Wine Advocate 92

Disgorged in May 2021, the latest rendition of Bollinger’s NV Brut Special Cuvee is showing beautifully, offering up aromas of ripe orchard fruit, citrus oil and peach, mingled with hints of walnuts and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit, lively acids and a pillowy mousse, it’s seamless and complete, concluding with an expansive finish. The reserve component includes wines that have been aged in magnums for more than 15 years in the Bollinger cellars. 85% of the grapes came from premier and grand cru sites on chalk soils. Primary fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, a portion of the wine was fermented in oak casks. Aged for 36 months in bottle prior to disgorgement. Winemaker Gilles Descotes. TA 4.5 g/l, pH 3.1, RS 10.8 g/l. Vegan and certified sustainable (HVE). Available in over 200 shops.Archetypal Bollinger! Evolved notes with a hint of caramelised butter and gently nutty character. Super-creamy on the palate, with a fine mousse and many layers of flavour. Very fine and elegant, despite the woody notes. Distinctive and memorable. (AWH) [20/05/2026]
